Darrin Freshwater Institute (DFWI) Bacterial and Fecal Analysis and In House Testing |
||
ELPOI conducts independent test for both Total Coliform Bacterial Analysis and Fecal Coliform Bacterial Analysis. Water samples for these tests are typically taken at the end of the summer when it is suspected that any failures in septic systems or other sources for Fecal material would be at their highest. Sampling takes place at several locations around the lake. These sites were chosen based on water movement at these locations and the possibility that they would capture any problems that might be in the area. The samples are collected by volunteer lake residents with analysis being conducted by Darrin Freshwater Institute at their Bolton Landing, NY facility. Base results of these test can be used to determine the general quality of the lakes water, if any significant changes from a year to year test results comparison were detected further study could take place. It should be noted that the Total Coliform counts can not differentiate human from animal (ducks, fish, etc.) sources and any count number must be carefully considered. |
